There is a sign on the library door that reads, “Respect Yourself, Respect Others and Respect Property.” These are the basic rules of the library.
We ask you to be respectful and we will offer the same respect in return.
For the library staff, respect means that we will not take a phone call while we are helping you and we expect the same consideration in return.
Respect means throwing your cigarette butts away not on the ground or in the flower pots. It also means not smoking within fifteen feet of the library entrances or windows.
It means throwing garbage in a garbage can and even picking up garbage that is floating in the wind.
Respect means sharing space with others and not blocking people from being able to enter or leave the building.
Respect means parking only in designated parking spaces and driving the right direction slowly through the parking lot.
It also means leaving the handicapped parking spaces and the door opener for those who need it.
It means parking across the street when you are capable so that others who are less capable can park close to the door.
Respect means resolving a problem and apologizing for an error. It also means understanding that we are all human and sometimes make mistakes. Respect means accepting an apology.
We respect your privacy so we will not give out information about you or the items you have checked out to anyone other than you. Respect yourself by using only your library card and having it with you whenever you come to the library.
We respect your right to access information. We expect you to respect others by being careful of what you view in public. Respect for yourself means keeping personal information private when you are in a public building.
Respect means keeping noises low so that others can do what they came to the library to do. It means talking softly, taking a crying child out of the building or into the bathroom to calm them down. Respect means turning a cell phone off or to vibrate.
Respect means looking at the fish in the tank not tapping the tank. It means walking instead of running.
Respect means understanding that your behavior conditions other people’s behavior and taking a moment to do the right thing has a positive effect.
Respect means taking a moment to understand a situation before getting angry or yelling.
Respect Yourself, Respect Others, Respect Property
Respectfully Yours,
Sarah Tobias, Director
