The library was closed on Friday, April 17th for our annual staff training day. We had the added benefit that the cement was poured around our new entrance. When it stops raining (tomorrow, I hope) the black top will be filled in and new stripes will be painted in the parking lot. There will be two disabled parking spaces and the third space by the entrance will be a five minute space for people dropping off materials in the book drops or for picking up people.
Don't forget, the book drops are available 24/7.
What we learned at staff training day:
We learned about gangs that move in and through Sycamore, we talked about the joys and frustrations of working with patrons and co-workers, we learned how to repair books, use the new microfilm machine, and the new public catalog. It is still called PraireCat, but is has a new face and an easier to use searching strategy.
You can try out our beta site now by clicking on the links in this message. We are excited about the new added features and easier more successful search screen.
Back to Staff Day, we also had a chance to learn and do some yoga. Many people say how they would love to work in a library because they get to read books all day. (We wish) The reality is that we are in the business of customer service and we work with people all day. This can be stressful. Sometimes because there are just a lot of people at one time and sometimes because one party is not in a good mood. Yoga has great relaxation benefits and makes a great way to end a staff training day.
If you have any questions about our training day, the new face to our catalog, or the new vestibule, give me a call, send me an email, or stop in and visit.
