This Saturday, April 17th between 12:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. the library will be accepting all of your book magazine, movie and music donations. NIU Cares Day volunteers will be on hand to to help move the materials into the big meeting. They will go through everything and either box it for reuse or box it for recycling.
Reuse of materials includes, adding to the library collection, putting into the library book sale, and donating to other organizations in need.
The recycling will be handled by International paper. All books and magazine that we can not reuse will be taken a way and given a new life by being recycled and made into paper.
In just three hours the library will save trees and money. You can't get any more ecologically or economically friendly than that.
Our plan is to offer a collection day 2 to 4 times a year. This means that you, the donor of books, will have to hold on to you stuff until a collection day as we will not longer accept donations at any other time.
"Why?," you ask.
Because accepting and dealing with donations has begun to take up more and more staff time. We are overwhelmed and do not have the funds to add additional staff to manage of the donations we get. We decided that this is out opportunity to work with volunteers and deal with everything at one time reducing staff stress and work overload.
We want to thank you for working with us to provide the best service possible to everyone.
We want to thank International Paper, Paul Coon, and all of the NIU Cares Day volunteers who have helped us make this program a reality.
